Enel Green Power starts construction of 25MW Cove Fort geothermal plant

The new geothermal plant, which will have a gross installed capacity of 25MW, will be able to generate around 160GWh of electricity per year, avoiding the emission of around 115,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year.

The plant, which should enter service by the end of 2013, will require a total investment of approximately US$126 million.

The Cove Fort plant will also benefit from a 20-year contract for the purchase of the electricity generated...

Imperial County Board approves world's largest solar PV farm

The approval received support from the Sierra Club, Audubon California, Defenders of Wildlife and the Natural Resources Defense Council.

8minutenergy's solar generation project will be built in three phases. The plants will produce a total of up to 600MW of clean, renewable solar power to provide electricity for over 200,000 households in California.

The solar PV projectis expected to displace the equivalent of approximately 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year of a coal plant, which is equal to the amount that roughly 67 million trees would displace annually...

Enbridge, First Solar hook up Silver State North to Nevada’s grid

First Solar developed and constructed the facility using its advanced thin film photovoltaic modules, and will operate and maintain the project for Enbridge.

First Solar expects to recognize revenue from Silver State North in the second quarter of 2012. NV Energy will purchase the facility's output under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement.

The Silver State North photovoltaic plant created over 380 construction jobs, and will produce enough renewable energy to power about 9,000 Nevada homes,...Enbridge, First Solar hook up Silver State North to Nevada’s grid

AES shrinks equity interests in coal, hydro and wind assets in China

The sale of these businesses is in line with our strategy to exit those markets where we do not have a competitive advantage,” said AndrĂ©s Gluski, AES president and chief executive officer. “Narrowing our geographic focus and investing in our core markets better positions us for long term earnings growth.”

Since September 2011, the company has announced eight asset sale transactions totaling $890 million. Six of those transactions, totaling $756 million, have already closed.

On May 4, 2012 AES agreed to sell its 25 percent equity interest in the 2,100MW coal-fired Yangcheng plant and its 49 percent equity interest in the 248MW China Wind joint venture to Sembcorp Utilities for a total of $86 million. AES also signed an agreement to sell its 49 percent equity interest in Jianghe Rural Electrification Development Company Limited (JHRH) to its...AES shrinks equity interests in coal, hydro and wind assets in China

Vattenfall launches first ocean energy engineering firm Nautimus

The company will fulfill the engineering, procurement, integration and construction (EPC) needs of wave power and tidal stream projects on behalf of utility clients. As a technology neutral player, Nautimus will work with technology developers, such as Pelamis Wave Power (PWP), delivering schemes to the final owner, such as Vattenfall.

The partnership has been established to address the absence of EPC services players in the ocean energy sector capable of handling the wide ranging challenges associated with constructing projects with new technology offshore. The gap, if unfilled, would pose a significant problem for the sector if, as expected, ocean energy schemes are deployed in increasing numbers before 2020.

Nautimus’ first client is likely to be Aegir, Vattenfall’s 10MW wave farm with PWP planned for construction from 2016 off Shetland, if the project secures the necessary consents....
