E.ON’s sales rose by 28 percent year on year to €35.7 billion, owing in particular to higher sales in the Optimization & Trading segment. This was primarily the result of an increase in trading activity to optimize E.ON’s generation fleet. The Renewables, Germany, and Russia segments also posted higher sales. Sales were significantly lower in the Generation segment due to the absence of output from nuclear power stations in Germany that were mandatorily shut down in 2011.
E.ON’s first-quarter investments in property, plant, and equipment, intangible assets, and shareholdings totaled €1.2 billion, roughly the same as the prior-year figure.
Operating cash flow declined by 51 percent year on year to roughly €450 million. Positive effects from the EBITDA increase and a decline in working capital were more than offset by significant withholding taxes which E.ON expects to be refunded in the second half of the year...

Cogentrix connects Alamosa solar plant to Colorado's power grid
The Alamosa Solar Generating plant, located in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, produces 30 megawatts of solar power for use by customers of Xcel Energy’s subsidiary, Public Service Company of Colorado (PSCo).
The Alamosa Solar project site is approximately 225 acres and consists of over 500 dual-axis, pedestal mounted tracker assemblies, each capable of producing approximately 60kW of electricity from the sun. Each tracker assembly is 70 feet wide by 50 feet high and contains 7,560 Fresnel lenses that concentrate sunlight by a multiple of 500 onto multi-junction solar cells developed originally as part of the US space program. The construction of the facility was contracted to MA Mortenson Co...

US Geothermal starts performance testing at San Emidio power plant
Performance testing includes guaranteed output, capacity, reliability and continuous operation tests that the plant must pass to achieve both commercial operation under the PPA and substantial completion under the EPC contract.
The San Emidio power plant has undergone component commissioning during the past three weeks and has operated at generation levels of up to 9 megawatts net (12 megawatts gross).
During commissioning and performance testing, all power generated is sold under the PPA at a rate of $50 per megawatt-hour until commercial operation is achieved. Upon acceptance of commercial operation by NV Energy, the power rate will increase to $89.75 per megawatt-hour with a 1 percent annual escalation...
